In Transition

Transition Task Force

As most people are now aware the Shambhala community has been shaken by news of sexual misconduct involving the spiritual leader of Shambhala, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, and others in the larger Shambhala Sangha. Some investigations have been completed. Others are in process. The Sakyong has stepped back from all teaching and administrative duties in Shambhala for the foreseeable future, and mechanisms are in place to listen to and support those who have experienced abuse. It is an uncertain time, a time of transition and re-examination. To read a full response letter from the Tucson Shambhala Meditation Center click here.

A Note to the Tucson Shambhala Community from the Transition Task Force

July 19, 2019

The Transition Task Force is helping to create a new infrastructure that will stabilize our Center and give it a foundation from which to launch the next chapter.   We are working to understand the ins and outs of the processes that keep the Center running so we can support the work of practice and education, meditation, and community building.   There is a lot to understand and a lot of coordination.

We have several committees tasked with reviewing the processes and necessary activities to support them including; database management, finance, membership, facilities, practice and education, and Culture of Kindness (core values).

On September 21st from 11am-2pm, we will be giving a full report on our work.  At that time we will offer a strategic framework (based on the work that has already been done), a suggested organizational infrastructure and how the processes work together to support our core offerings and a simplified governance structure that might support a center our size. We hope you will attend.

We would love to see the membership increase and we want to create more clarity so new people will feel welcome and know where to plug in and be part of the community.

Stay tuned, more to come.
